Meetings

Meetings

Meetings are normally held on the third Thursday of the month and feature programs with speakers knowledgeable about railroad operations, history and travel. Meetings begin at 8:00 P.M. Upcoming programs are listed below.

On the first Tuesday of the month we prepare our monthly newsletter, the Callboy, for mailing. Meetings begin at 7:30 PM and are often followed by an impromptu slide show. All are welcome.

For last minute updates or meeting cancellations in bad weather, please call our information line at (617) 489-5277.

Upcoming Programs:

Thursday, January 19, 8:00 p.m.: Mass Bay RRE Membership Secretary Len Bachelder shows his slides of "Steam In the 1960s and 1970s."

Thursday, February 16, 8:00 p.m.: Mass Bay RRE member Bob McLaughlin presents videos of Norfolk & Western Class A 2-6-6-4 1218 and Class J 4-8-4 611. Joint meeting with Bay State Model RR Museum!

Mailing Nights:

Mailing of the Callboy and event flyers begins very casually around 7:30 p.m. After the work, we usually enjoy each other's railroading-related slides, unless the session is unusually long or is followed by a Board or committee meeting. Participation in any of our regular meetings is NOT limited to official RRE members!

Tuesday, January 10: Postponed "Year In Review" Board of Directors meeting only.

Tuesday, February 7: Callboy mailing session. Bring color slides or home videos.

Meeting Location

Mass Bay RRE has a new "permanent" meeting place for its regular monthly meeting: Union Church in Waban (Newton), Mass. The location is 14 Collins Road (corner of Beacon Street), Waban. The church is right behind the Waban stop on the Green Line (Riverside - D). Most of the available parking is on the street. This is effective immediately with the January 18 meeting. Callboy and Board meetings will continue to take place in Newton Highlands for the time being.

The following location applies only to Callboy mailing sessions and Board meetings: The Newton Highlands Congregational Church, Lincoln & Hartford Sts., one block west of Walnut St. and two blocks north of Route 9 in Newton Highlands. Take a T Green Line "D Riverside" car to Newton Highlands and walk one block west. Driving east on Route 9 from 128, go under the T Green Line "D Riverside" overhead bridge; turn left at first traffic light; go two blocks north on Woodward Street to the blinking light; turn right onto Lincoln Street. Meetings begin at 8:00 PM. Enter the church basement through the double steel doors at the "loading zone" driveway next to the Hartford St. parking lot. The church normally keeps these doors locked; we open them a half-hour before each meeting. If you find them locked on a meeting night, don't leave: knock loudly!!
