'STEAM in the SNOW 2022' With great regret, Mass Bay RRE has decided to cancel Steam in the Snow 2022, scheduled for January 2, 2022, due to circumstances beyond our control. We have known for a while that locomotive 7470 needed some relatively minor repairs before it could be ready for operation. We were repeatedly assured that these repairs would be completed in time for Steam in the Snow 2022 to run as planned on January 2. On that basis, we proceeded with trip planning and ticket sales. Unfortunately, the repair work has not proceeded as quickly as anticipated. And, as one might expect when working on a 100-year-old locomotive, there have been complications. At present, the 7470 is still not operational, and its availability for January 2 is looking increasingly unlikely. The entire premise of Steam in the Snow is for our passengers to be able to see and photograph the steam locomotive in action. There is no backup plan if 7470 is not available. We believe that the best approach is to cancel the trip now, before tickets have been issued, rather than "hoping for the best" and risking the even further inconvenience and disappointment of a very last-minute cancellation. All fares that have been paid will be fully refunded to the purchaser's original payment method. We deeply regret having to take this step. Like the 120 people who had bought tickets, we were eagerly anticipating the return of Steam in the Snow 2022 in January. Now, we will look forward to trying again in 2023, most likely for Saturday, January 7. Mass Bay RRE is a non-profit [501(c)(3)] Massachusetts educational corporation.
