Mass Bay RRE Newport Rail-Sail-Rail Adventure August 2005

Back to Providence Photo by Doug Scott

Don Nevin, a Mass Bay RRE member, and Rhode Island resident, led six of us on a 40-minute walk from the ferry dock to downtown, along the east side of the river, looking at rail architectural and historic sites. This group arrived at the Brewery in definite need of refreshment! We then walked three blocks to the Amtrak station to board the last car of #76 (AEM7 907 and six cars) at 7:03 PM. After a speedy dash north (railroad east), #76 deposited us at Route 128, Back Bay and South Station (in at 7:45 PM). Although we had had some nervous moments during the day, using all regular service transportation (even the trolleys!), all agreed we had had an interesting day on the lands and waters of Rhode Island.
