Cape Cod Central Photo Special
October 22, 2006

Mass Bay RRE goes 'down-Cape' for the first time in 18 years

Eighteen long years had passed since Mass Bay RRE last ran a trip along Cape Cod. The 1980s era that featured leased MBTA coaches, blocks of seats on Cape Cod & Hyannis with elegant parlor car Nobska, chartered Providence-Boston Airways DC-3s and MV Provincetown II seemed forever gone with the salt breezes. For whatever reason, all the time George Bartholomew's... Cape Cod Railroad and its... successor, the Cape Cod Central, kept running passenger trains amid the sand dunes and cranberry bogs, we never got back there.

Until October 22.

At Vic Campbell's urging, Mass Bay RRE organized a Photo Special to cover CCC's ex-New Haven main line, from Hyannis station along the Upper Cape to the Canal, then across to Buzzards Bay (Plans for a longer trip are still in the works - watch Callboy!)

With help from CCC President John Kennedy, VP Dede Kiely and the weather, approximately 80 passengers enjoyed a leisurely Sunday ride through Cape fall foliage - highlighted with several brilliant red cranberry bogs that matched CCC's cranberry paint scheme.
